Lauren L. Hill Taming the Jackalope is like traditional candy shop- sweet drinking chocolate with ethical seals of approval: organic, fair trade vegan. With intense chocolatey aroma and blooming fruity end notes, this was the sweetest of all the entrants. Taming the Jackalope is for kids- and kids at heart- longing for that luscious, childhood drinking chocolate experience. The Original Cocoa Traders have put decades into building the organic, fair trade business they operate today. I am impressed by their support of Rainforest Alliance certified ingredients and the thoughtfulness of seasonal transport to reduce emissions. Their use of Australian salt and recyclable bags furthers their environmental responsibility profile. Particularly salient is the educational component of what they do; creating dialogue around the importance of responsible cocoa production.Amy Campbell Taming The Jackalope by The Original Cocoa Traders was such a fun and memorable unboxing experience- it felt like a little chocolatey gift just for me. The presentation was so thoughtful, from the cute mug and little garnish additions to the clever inclusion of a frother (such a great touch!). It instantly set the mood for a cosy treat and made it feel way more special than your average hot choc. As for the drinking chocolate itself- it’s rich, creamy and super easy to make. The blend of Peruvian cocoa, organic sugar, and that tiny hit of pink salt gives it this beautiful balance of deep chocolate, subtle fruitiness and a little honey sweetness. It’s a real crowd-pleaser kind of drink- smooth, not too sweet and definitely something I’ll be reaching for again. What really stands out about this brand is how deeply committed they are to ethical sourcing and sustainability. Based in Melbourne, they’ve spent nearly two decades building genuine relationships with cocoa farmers in Peru, even visiting the farms to see the whole process firsthand- which is pretty inspiring. They’re Fairtrade certified and actively support Rainforest Alliance efforts like geo-mapping to protect the Amazon, showing they care about the environment and the people behind their ingredients. On top of that, they thoughtfully ship their products during cooler months to reduce emissions and work with a local co-packer that empowers people with disabilities. Plus, their products are organic, gluten-free and certified kosher, halal and vegan- so they really make sure everyone can enjoy their chocolate without worry.Jordan Pie This is a great option for anyone looking for a simple, no-fuss hot chocolate powder, without the ‘fancy’ extras or adaptogenic add-ins (as not everyone know what these are, or want them included). I also really love that they use fair trade and organic ingredients, which makes it an even better choice. What really stands out to me about TOCT is their genuine commitment to doing things right, from how they source their cocoa to how they care for people and the planet. They’ve built real relationships with their farmers, even visiting the farms in Peru to ensure everything’s done ethically, without child labour. I also really appreciate their focus on sustainability, with compostable or recyclable packaging and efforts to reduce waste. They’re not just ticking boxes, they’re truly thinking about the bigger picture.
